As transplants from the state of New York six years ago, it has taken us a while to catch the Buckeye fever. Well let's just say it's taking ME a while. I enjoy getting together with friends to watch a game on occasion, but I do not eat, sleep, and breathe Buckeyes. Thanks to his friend Eric, who has easy access to tickets, Steve has been to a number of games and is now almost as big of a nut as the rest of them. In fact, for THE big game coming up on Saturday, Steve has invited my father, who is driving in from NY to join the crowd. Dad has promised me he won't flip cars or burn sofas on the sidewalk. He's made it clear he won't speak for Steve however.
Am I upset I'm not going this game? Naaaah. I'll enjoy watching it on the boob tube. I'll doubtlessly be multi-tasking. Hey, speaking of multi-tasking, I wonder if Lance is planning to Live-Blog this event?
Joe Blundo, columnist for The Columbus Dispatch had this to say this morning about how "Bucks fans rank No. 1 in angst". You will chuckle over Joe's insights, such as this one: "Buckeyes fans mourn losses, of course, but they also grieve over narrow
victories. They were so bereft over beating Illinois, I thought they
might..."

My sister has lived in Columbus for about 11 years and still hasn't quite caught it. She went to IU which I hear is not well thought of in Buckeye land...

Oh, and then there is that horribly irritating jingle "Football Friday Night, Football Friday Night..."
Has your sister gotten used to that one yet? It's like nails on a chalkboard to me.
Now, wouldn't it be funny if your sister is a neighbor of ours? She's not in Worthington is she?

Connie, I grew up in UA and went to IU just to get away from the football crazies (only to have them replaced by basketball crazies). Good luck with the mayhem this weekend!!

Hi Claire,
I'm thinking that Saturday afternoon might be a good time to get a jump start on my Christmas shopping. There won't be any mayhem in the malls, that's for sure! I'm assuming there will at least be a skeleton crew to man the cash registers.

That's a brillant idea!

Want to know how much this blog is influencing me? I NEVER pay any attention to football, OK? But yesterday I had to follow the OSU-Michigan game -- on the radio, on TV...How about those Buckeyes?!

Hi Georgia,
It was quite the game wasn't it? I drove Steve and my father down to campus to drop them off about three hours before the game began. Of course there was a sea of red as far as the eye could see, and I expected the Goodyear blimp, but I did not expect to see hot air balloons and I have NEVER seen so many planes pulling banners behind them. There had to be at least a couple dozen circling the stadium. The whole day was one big spectacle!
